Former Richland Twp. firefighter charged with theft

By The Associated Press

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

A former firefighter is accused of stealing from the volunteer fire company where he worked.

Richland Township police in Cambria County charged 35-year-old Jason Ober with theft by deception, receiving stolen property and dealing in proceeds from illegal activity.

Police said Ober accepted two $12,000 checks from separate accounts for the same 3-year-old truck that he sold to the Richland Township Fire Department in December 2007.

An audit of the fire company books revealed the discrepancies, police said.

Ober was arraigned Wednesday and released on unsecured bond. He was assistant chief and a full-time employee with the fire company at the time of the alleged theft.
