Former War Memorial Manager Sentenced On Federal Tax Evasion Charges

A former manager of the Cambria County War Memorial Arena was sentenced to 30 months in prison and must pay a $25,000 fine after pleading guilty to income tax evasion.

Jim Vauter, of East Taylor Township, previously pleaded guilty to evading federal taxes from 2004 to 2008. He was sentenced on Thursday.

Vautar managed the arena from 1981 until the county hired SMG to manage it last year. Vautar reported income of $183,000 over those five years but actually earned $664,000 and underpaid his taxes by more than $100,000.

The IRS and state police began investigating Vautar after some promoters claimed they were cheated out of proceeds from arena events. Vautar has never been charged with stealing that money.
