Georgian Place Recovering After Roof Collapse

SOMERSET, Pa. —

The Georgian Place in Somerset County suffered some major damages this winter because of a roof collapse. Now managers are trying to bounce back.

The roof collapsed under almost 12 feet of drifted snow, into a vacant space awaiting renovations for a new business.

Officials are monitoring other roofs like the one that collapsed to make sure the collapse doesn't happen again.

Property manager Tonya Spangler said, "We have had a structural engineer come in and they thoroughly inspected it. And we are now waiting on a price for repair and renovations."

Despite the setback, Georgian Place officials plan to move forward by drawing in new business. Over this past year, a dance center, book store no comma and antique store set up shop. A Meyersdale businessman's shop is the most recent addition, Blubaugh's Electronics.

Owner Doug Blubaugh said, "I'm seeing a lot more people than I expected. We just opened up 10 days ago and there's a steady stream of people moving."
