Grant Money Cut For Tutoring Program

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

Classroom Plus is a program offered by the Learning Lamp to help fund families for additional education.

The programs benefit kids who may suffer from a learning disability or do not meet Pennsylvania State School Assessment test (PSSA) scores.

The program helps over 300 families in Johnstown and surrounding areas, and now parents will have to find alternative means to help their children. The cost for a tutor without the funding can cost more than $24 an hour.

Tina George, a parent who uses the program, said, "I just think that they are making a big mistake-by removing or not funding a program that is so beneficial to our kids."

Parents of children who suffer from learning disorders hope that the state realizes just how important the Classroom Plus program is to their children, and they said cost should not be an issue when it comes to education.
