Great Kitchen Gadgets For Healthy Cooking

Most kitchen gadgets are just that. A gadget that looks cool, but isn't very useful.

The Good Housekeeping Institute has found three clever kitchen products that work well and can help you cook healthy, too. Take the Zyliss Easy Spin Salad Spinner.

"We tested many different salad spinners and this one, by far and away, was the best performer," says Marjorie Cubisino, Food Appliances Tester, Good Housekeeping Institute. "It removed the most water from the lettuce. And that means if the lettuce is thoroughly dried, the salad dressing clings better so you can use less and thus save calories."

The Sharp Superheated Steam Oven is a new way to cook light and healthy for main dishes and vegetables. Steamed foods retain more nutrients and have a fresher flavor than broiled or fried and with no added fat.

"This oven uses superheated steam with conventional heat. So, meats and poultry come out very moist and delicious," says Cubisino. "You can also use it as a conventional oven. So if you're on a diet and you're sick of dried up chicken breast, this oven may be the answer."

A less costly way to steam your veggies is with the Easy Reach Steamer.

"This steamer basket fits into a sauce pan," says Cubisino. "And the wonderful thing about it is you can fill it as high as you want with vegetables. And, unlike other steamer baskets that just have a little loop that's hard to find, this one has a center post that extends up to six inches so it is very easy to remove from the pan."
