Mount Nittany Medical Center Director Honored by Guard and Reserve

Dianne Barben, director of Women and Children Services at Mount Nittany Medical Center, was presented with the Patriot Award at the State College Spikes’ Military Appreciation Day during an on-field ceremony at Sunday’s game.

Barben, along with four other local employers, received the award presented by the PA Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, and the Department of Defense. Nominated by former Mount Nittany employee Captain Major Pauline Nicosia, Barben was recognized for leadership, and personnel policies that support the Guard and Reserve.

Barben served 24 years as an active duty U.S. air force nurse, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. Responding to her award, she said, “It is an honor and a privilege to continue to serve our country by supporting the mission of our National Guard and Reserve forces.”

Presenting the award was Major General Wes Craig, the State Chairman of ESGR and the PA National Guard Adjutant General. Also honored at the ceremony was the State College Spikes, who received the Seven Seals award for outstanding support of the military.
