Hearing Continued For Man Accused Of Raping 5-Year-Old Girl

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

The mother of a 5-year-old girl who was raped said her daughter is receiving counseling and has been receptive to treatment, which she said is a good sign her child will recover.

A court hearing for 22-year-old Lee Kearns, the man accused of raping the girl, was continued on Monday.

Last week, Stonycreek Township police arrested Kearns after the girl's father said he walked in on Kearns having inappropriate contact with his daughter. According to court documents, the incident was not the first time Kearns sexually abused her.

In addition to other charges, Kearns is charged with rape, sexual assault and corruption of minors. Kearns was transported to the Cambria County Jail where he failed to post bail.

The Cambria County assistant district attorney would not comment on the case, but the victim's mother said she knows Kearns is autistic and suffers from other mental illnesses, and she said she thinks that will play a big part in what happens next in the case.
