Highland Community Library Cuts Hours Due To State Budget Cutbacks

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

State budget cutbacks have forced the Highland Community Library in Richland Township to make cuts of its own.

Director Dorene Miller said the library is cutting 13 hours of operation a week to make up the difference.

Miller said there has been a decrease in funding over the past three years and this is the first time in 20 years of operation they had to cut hours.

Business on the other hand has been the exact opposite. The library has been busier than ever before with people coming in to use their computers for finding jobs and writing resumes.

Miller said they now need the community to pitch in. People can always donate money or participate in their fundraisers.

They will have Jumble 'N Bake Sale during Richland Community days and also host a quilt show.

Miller said they're offering Novel Tea parties. The first one is Sept. 17, and they will be discussing Jane Austen novels.

Hours will change on Friday, July 1.
