Hometown Tradition Lives On Despite The Cold

Johnstown —

No matter how cold it got, no weather was going to keep a hometown tradition from taking place.

Parishioners of the St. John Baptist Orthodox Church in Johnstown's East Conemaugh section participated in the 25th year of the blessing of the Conemaugh River. On this day, which is the Sunday following the major feast of the epiphany, the church holds the blessing, which starts as a procession from the church and leads onto the bridge which connects Franklin and Conemaugh.
