House Explodes Near DuBois, Kills Two

Husband And Wife Die In The Blast

Sandy Township, Clearfield County —

It was a calm and quiet Saturday morning until around 8:45 when a gigantic explosion rocked a Clearfield County neighborhood. The force of the blast damaged the foundations of nearby homes and could be heard as far away as Sykesville. Fire crews from DuBois, Sandy, Penfield and Brady Township responded to the call and when they arrived on the scene, they found what looked like a scene from Hurricane Charley. The entire home at 48 Woodland Lane was leveled. One wall lay across the street. Another wall was blasted into the neighbor's house. Both of the people who lived in the house were killed in the explosion. The state police fire marshall is investigating the cause of the blast, although officials say there are signs consistent with a natural gas explosion. A chopper was used to survey the debris field.
