House passes texting ban; bill returns to Senate

By WJAC Web Staff

HARRISBURG —

The state House passed legislation Monday that would make it a primary offense to text while driving, meaning that police could pull a driver over if they spot that person texting. The driver would then face a $50 fine.

Pennsylvania is one of the few remaining states without a law banning texting behind the wheel.

The House bill allows talking on cell devices while driving, whether hands-free or not.

The bill now returns to the Senate before it can become law.  The Senate was expected to vote on the bill Tuesday.
