How To Avoid Home Burglaries During The Holidays

PAINT TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

It's the time of year where burglars target homes while people are shopping or out of town, but there's ways to protect yourself.

Paint Township Police Chief Rick Skiles said people will ride around and look for a dark house that doesn't look occupied, and those are the types of residences that people will target.

Skiles said leave lights on, a radio or a television. Ask a neighbor to pick up any mail or newspapers or tell the post office to stop delivering altogether. Also have someone plow snow around your home and leave a car in the driveway to be seen. The bottom line is make it look like someone is home.

Skiles said, "The main thing a victim always says is how violated they feel."
