Huntingdon Co. Fire Officials Hold Ribbon Cutting For Merger

By the stroke of midnight, three will become one in Huntingdon County.

The new department will be made of up stations from Huntingdon Borough, Oneida Township and Walker Township.

Officials said the companies will remain open. It's the management, budgeting and behind-the-scenes work that will change.

The new department will be led by a fire commissioner and deputy fire commissioner.

The merger was prompted when funding declined, as well as manpower.

The 100 volunteer firefighters will cover 48 square miles and serve about 10,000 people.

The department will run under a $354,000 budget.

Their next project will be a headquarters station that will replace the McConnellstown Station in Walker Township.
