Huntingdon Co. lawmaker announces he is gay

By Melanie Gillespie

HUNTINGDON COUNTY, Pa. —

A local Pennsylvania lawmaker is grabbing headlines around the area after announcing that he is gay.

State representative Mike Fleck told the Daily News of Huntingdon County that it's taken years for him to accept his sexuality, but it doesn't change his convictions as a legislator or Republican.

Fleck has been in the House since 2006, but said he waited until after this year's election to disclose his sexuality to avoid distractions.

He hopes his openness will help others.
