Ice Carvers Prepare For "First Night"

By Brittany Boyer

STATE COLLEGE, Pa —

Across the world, people will ring in the new year in their own way.

In Centre County, thousands of people will head to State College for the annual "First Night" on New Years Eve.

The event is most well known for the ice sculptures that are displayed throughout downtown State College.

On Saturday, carvers will begin carving their sculptures for the 2011 event.

Big sculptures will be displayed on South Allen Street, while smaller ones will be at the Municipal Building Plaza, and also in front of businesses and churches.

In addition to the sculptures, there will also be music, food, art classes, and a 5K race.

Visit www.firstnightstatecollege.com for more information on the annual event.
