Indiana Celebrates Holidays In Honor Of Jimmy Stewart

INDIANA, Pa. —

Downtown Indiana is getting ready for the holidays and it's all in honor of Jimmy Stewart, even the crosswalks.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” seems to be the theme of Indiana's holiday season in memory of the late Jimmy Stewart.

Stewart is an Indiana native so what better way to celebrate.

Downtown Indiana Administrative Assistant Melissa Pantall told WJAC Friday is light up night. And everyone in the town will gather to light up the tree and downtown store.

That’s not all, when you walk to the events be sure to listen closely to the crosswalks at 7th and 9th streets on Philadelphia Street.

You will hear “This is Jimmy Stewart, the North 9th Street walk sign is on to cross North 9th Street.”

It sounds like Jimmy Stewart but it's actually Rich Little and it’s to promote Indiana and the Jimmy Stewart Museum.

Rich Little came up with the idea to mimic Stewart's voice so when you're crossing the street to the museum you can think of Stewart, and what he means to the town.

City worker Victoria Rosenberger said, “I think it's great. Even people who don't know who Jimmy Stewart is, it's great to hear his voice… it gives everybody a chance to meet him and know who he is.”
