Indiana Co. man killed cutting large tree branch

By The Associated Press

INDIANA COUNTY, Pa. —

An Indiana County man was killed after a tree-cutting accident Sunday afternoon in Armstrong Township.

County Coroner Michael Baker said Jason Drew, 30, was killed by a large tree branch that hit him in the head as he and a relative struggled to free a chain saw.

Baker says the incident happened about 2:15 p.m. when Drew was using an extended chain saw to cut the branch about 18 feet off the ground.

When the chain saw got wedged in the tree, Drew and his uncle attached a chain to the limb and tried to free the saw by using a tractor to pull on the branch. Instead, the branch snapped and hit Drew in the head, killing him.

The coroner has ruled Drew's death an accident.
