Injured Marine Returns Home To Somerset County

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. —

After a close call overseas, a local Marine is recovering in his own home.

It was a packed house Monday in Boswell as the entire family came out to welcome home Chris Gisbrecht. He's the young Marine who was recently injured in Afghanistan.

Chris arrived home Monday afternoon after being released from the hospital in Bethesda, Md. He was talking softly because of the amount of damage to his throat and vocal cords from shrapnel.

Chris, 21, was injured in Afghanistan when an IED exploded, killing three of his fellow Marines. Chris said he doesn't remember the attacks, but he is extremely thankful to be alive.

He starts physical therapy on Tuesday for a broken hip.
