Jefferson County Spring Water Turns Red

HENDERSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

A family in Jefferson County is trying to find out what made their spring water turn red.

Tom and Jenny Lisak noticed the changes earlier this week.

That natural spring has provided water for their farm for more than a century.

The Lisaks admit they don't know what sparked the changes at the spring.

However, they told WJAC-TV that there's plenty of natural gas drilling near their farm.

Specialists from one gas company and the DEP have tested the water.

Officials from Exco Resources, which has a natural gas well near the farm, said the preliminary results of those tests indicate their operations are not behind the changes in the water.

The Lisak family is now using a tank of water pumped before the spring turned red.

But they told WJAC-TV, after that runs out, they'll need to find somewhere else to get water.
