Jefferson County Teacher Faces Charges

BROOKVILLE, Pa. —

A teacher in Jefferson County is facing charges after she had an inappropriate relationship with a student, police said.

Police said Karin Hetrick was arrested last week at her home in Summerville.

Hetrick was a math teacher and softball coach at Brookville High School.

Parents said she was popular with students and her softball players.

According to court documents, Hetrick started a relationship with a female student in November 2009.

The relationship started with text messages but turned sexual just a few months ago.

According to the documents, Hetrick hugged and kissed the girl in her high school classroom.

The documents also claim Hetrick and the student traveled to remote areas to have sexual relations.

The relationship was reported to police last week by the girl's mother.

Hetrick is facing a long list of charges including abuse of a child and indecent assault.

Hetrick has still not been arraigned on the charges.
