INDIANA COUNTY, Pa. —

Indiana County's best-known native is being honored by a showing of one of his most famous and classic Christmas movies.

Actor Jimmy Stewart was born in Indiana, Pa., in 1908 and raised in the small town with his affluent family. He was known as a shy man, but started in dozens of movies, including "Vertigo" and "Harvey."

But there is one movie in particular deemed as a Christmas classic that seems to bring families together during the holidays year after year: "It's A Wonderful Life."

The Jimmy Stewart Museum on Philadelphia Street in the town is above the public library and doesn't draw too much attention, but that's what the award-winning actor wanted.

"He went to grade school here in Indiana, then went on to prep school in Mercersburg, then went on to Princeton. So he lived a life in a sense of privilege that was very different than most of his neighbors," said Timothy Harley, executive director of the Jimmy Stewart Museum.

Harley has been working at the museum since 2003 and dozens of artifacts displayed throughout, including a door that came from Stewart's home in Beverly Hills, Calif.

"Shortly after Mr. Stewart passed away, that property was demolished and through a gift from some folks in California, we're able to have that door here," Harley said.

Dozens of pictures hang on the wall telling the story of Stewart's life, like when he was in the military and when he became a famous actor who starred in more than 80 films.

But "It's A Wonderful Life" is the movie that hits home for many.

"It portrays what the challenges (are) that every man goes through," Harley said.

Just for the holiday season, the museum will offer a special showing in its theater.

"Our annual holiday tradition is to show 'It's A Wonderful Life' as our matinee feature from now through New Year's, so that's every Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. We invite you to come up -- that's included in your price of admission -- take a tour around our fabulous museum and enjoy a great film."

The museum is at 835 Philadelphia St., Indiana, PA 15701. For more information, call 724-349-6112.
