Jobs In Johnstown?

Major Announcement

It's an announcement Johnstown was hoping would end in their favor, but today the CEO of a Spanish wind turbine company announced it will not base it's headquarters in Johnstown, but this isn't necessarily bad news. The key to all of this is the manufacturing facility for Gamesa. Wherever that is built, about 400 jobs follow and as of right now Johnstown is still in the running for that facility.

The Lower Works in the West End section of Johnstown is one of the sites Gamesa is still considering to build the wind turbine manufacturing facility. Johnstown is competing with Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Lehigh Valley, and Scranton . Governor Ed Rendell announced today Gamesa chose Philadelphia to base it's U.S. operations and the other cities, including Johnstown, need to wait a little longer to find out if the manufacturing facility will be built in their area.

Governor Rendell says, Up to 400 employees will be hired at the manufacturing facility and all told, if you take the construction, the eventual operation of the wind farms, the corporate employees and the manufacturing employees, this could lead, in the next five years to 1,000 new jobs in Pennsylvania.

There is no word yet on when Gamesa will choose the location of their manufacturing facility.
