John Dawson's Sister Takes Stand In 1981 Homicide Trial

Day five of the John Dawson murder trial in Somerset County was under way on Thursday and prosecutors resumed a number of witnesses, hoping to show beyond a reasonable doubt that Dawson beat his wife to death and burned her body 30 years ago.

On Thursday, Joyce Blough, John Dawson's sister took the stand to answer questions.

Blough said in court that she saw burn marks on John's cheeks and nose early in the morning on the day police found Kathleen's body.

Blough also remembered the burning smell when she was near her brother.

When asked why she didn't mention the smell before, she said "No one asked."

On Wednesday, another witness also told the court he saw burn marks on the suspect's face around the time of Kathleen Dawson's killing.

One of John Dawson's former friends also testified, recalling a conversation where they joked about "knocking off" their wives.
