Johnsonburg home destroyed by fire

By Brittany Boyer

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. —

An Elk County man is without a home after a fire destroyed his house in Johnsonburg early Tuesday morning.

Johnsonburg Fire Chief Bob Dickey told 6 News the fire started shortly after 1 a.m.

Crews were called to a house at the intersection of Willow and Church streets.

Dickey said that on arrival flames were shooting as high as 50 to 75 feet.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire, which raised a red flag to firefighters.

Dickey believes the fire started in the garage, which was located on the side and the back of the home.

Dickey said that there were no utilities inside the garage.

A fire marshal was called to the scene early Tuesday morning.

After a preliminary investigation on the property, the fire marshal called to have the arson dog from Williamsport come to the scene.

Neighbors who live near the home said the house looked like a ball of fire overnight.

Brittany Charleson, a neighbor who lives next to the house, told 6 News that it was a scary situation to be in.

During the early morning hours when her boyfriend noticed the fire, he was able to move his motorcycle and Charleson's car.

Her boyfriend's Chevrolet Trailblazer was destroyed by the fire.

Three homes also received minor damage.

At this time the fire marshal has not ruled a cause of the fire.

Firefighters told 6 News that they are treating it as suspicious.

The man who lived in the home is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Anybody with information should call state police in Ridgway at 814-776-6136.
