Johnstown Business Owners Say They're Committed To City

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

Johnstown business owners said they're committed to staying in the city and want to encourage new businesses to set up shop in the city.

More than half of Johnstown businesses are nonprofits, which means they help the community but don't help the tax base. Because of that, city leaders and others said is very important for every business in town to stay in town.

Em's Subs is moving into a bigger space on Main Street downtown, where a drug store used to be. The building had been vacant for a while and up for sale. Because of the move, the sub shop will have more baking space and a bigger dining area.

Over the past year, several eateries have closed down due to a poor economy, but the sub shop's owner said the restaurant is committed to the city and is confident it will benefit from the business community.

Another business is also investing in Johnstown by transforming and old bank building into loft apartments.
