Johnstown City Leaders Address Parking During Thunder In The Valley

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

A viewer emailed the WJAC-TV newsroom furious someone was ticketed Thursday during Thunder in the Valley.

WJAC-TV asked city leaders what the parking policy is.

City Fiance Director Carlos Gunby said they relax on giving parking tickets during the events, but if people are parking in no-parking zones, including near fire hydrants, they will ticket and tow.

Gunby said, "Safety is a big key when you have this many people in town for an event such as this and it just cannot be tolerated."

Motorcycle riders have designated spots to park for free along the street. The Convention and Visitors Burea supported fees for street meters to be bagged just for riders.

Police Chief Craig Foust said the first priority is safety.

Foust said many other rallies try to generate funds off of parking tickets, but Johnstown does not.

Foust said, "If we have to take action and protect the safety of the people, that's what we're going to do."

All of the parking garages have a $5 flat fee for event parking.
