Johnstown couple co-authors book on history of Antietam

By Lindsay Ward and  WJAC Web Staff

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

A Johnstown couple has recently released a second book they coauthored together.

James and Suzanne Gindlesperger said they aren't trying to give readers a history lesson in their new book, "So You Think You Know Antietam? The Stories Behind America's Bloodiest Day." The Gindlespergers said they just hope people fall in love with history while reading it.

The couple previously had much success with their first book, which was about Gettysburg, so they said it only seemed fitting to continue in that direction but focusing this time on the Civil War battle of Antietam.

They said most of the books about battles cover strategies, whereas their books focus on the human interest side.

It took the couple about two years to put their latest book together. Jim said he did more of the research and Suzanne took most of the photos.

In addition to the unique facts, stories and history on a battle that forever changed America, the Gindlespergers said they wanted to go a step further and make their book different by putting in GPS coordinates.

The couple said readers have comments on how much easier it is to find monuments and landmarks with that additional information.

For people who are interested in purchasing the book, they said it is available online or in any major bookstore.
