Johnstown Crunches The Numbers

While we're still a month and a half away from 2004, next year is exactly what many communities are already working on. Johnstown city leaders are busy crunching their numbers, trying to come up with a balanced budget. While they feel they should be able to make ends meet, without cutting services and raising taxes, there is one area that city officials feel still needs to be addressed. Jeff Silka, the Johnstown City Manager, said "Every time we have downturns in employment--we're losing money on the taxable value of our assessments." Yesterdays budget review session was one of three planned meetings.
