Johnstown Fire Training Site Is On The Way

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. —

Thanks to a $100,000 state grant and help from the Johnstown Redevelopment Authority, the Johnstown Fire Department will soon have some training ground of it's own.

By the end of the summer the department is expected to build a training facility on Iron Street in the old Bethlem Steel location.

The facility will be shared with police for SERT and K-9 training.

Other fire departments will also have the opportunity to train there at a cost that will help pay for maintenance of the building.

Johnstown Fire Chief Anthony Kovacic said it is a safer situation for everyone.

Firefighters will no longer train in abandoned buildings in the northern part of the county and the new facility will be within the city to ensure quicker response time.
