Johnstown High School Continues To Raise Money For Lone Fire Survivor

Weeks after three people died in a Johnstown house fire, the Greater Johnstown High School community is continuing to raise money for the family and lone survivor.

Kirk and Brittany Hooter both went to the school. Kirk survived the blaze, but Brittany, their mother and her boyfriend did not.

Affiliates with the school said they started collecting money immediately and have raised more than $2,000 to date. Students have had collection cans at school and school events, and teachers collected money during "Dress Down Day."

"When someone at our school is in need, everyone stepped up. It's amazing how much money we collected in such a short amount of time," said Katie Kovalchik, a senior at the school.

Melissa Oswalt, senior class advisor, said, "I'm very proud of our students. I'm very proud of our school district and the outside community as well.

The school will be also collecting donations for two needy families at an upcoming home basketball game on Jan. 8.
