The state planning board now has a member from Johnstown. The city's mayor, Don Zucco, has been appointed to the board by Governor Ed Rendell. The board is comprised of state lawmakers and citizens and has a mission to monitor trends and issues of concern to the state. Zucco says he accepted the position for two reasons. "It's a chance to learn a little more about what's going on," said Zucco. "Secondly, it gets us to the table and gives us recognition for the region and gives us access to talk about things that we really want to get in place here." The advisory board will provide annual updates to the governor and both leaders in the House and Senate.
