Johnstown Mayor Stepping Down

Deputy Mayor Will Replace Zucco

JOHNSTOWN —

It was just months ago that Johnstown voters re-elected longtime mayor Don Zucco to a new four-year term.

But before this year is over, the city will be looking for his successor.

Zucco said he plans to step down as mayor in about six months. He said he purchased a home in Westmont, which prompted his decision.

Deputy Mayor Tom Trigona will take over the position until the next election.

Zucco was a member of city council for 16 years, and served for eight of those years as mayor. He said he was hesitant to run for re-election, but the city "still had unfinished business."

He said, "We've got the High Tech Park which has not begun yet. We're in the middle of building Point Stadium. As a matter of fact, I sent five projects to Sen. Santorum's office yesterday."

Zucco said, even though he will no longer be mayor in a few months, he still plans to be involved in projects to improve the city.
