Johnstown Photo Studio Getting Rid Of Thousands Of Antique Negatives

A Johnstown photography studio is doing some housekeeping, and more than 100,000 old negatives are on their way out the door.

Cover Studios in Johnstown has shot thousands of pictures dating back to the 1940s, and workers said there's just not enough space to store them. The negatives include weddings and yearbook pictures.

The studio kept the negatives as a courtesy for customers in case they needed pictures reprinted. The system is well organized; people just need the name of the person and the date the photo was taken. WJAC-TV found a photo of anchor Marty Radovanic in 1995, and a negative of WJAC photographer Lanny Vrooman taken at his 1965 graduation.

The studio is asking for a small donation, and all proceeds will go to the Women's Help Center, a shelter and counseling center for domestic abuse victims.

"It's bulging at the seams and we really want to be responsible about this and not just, 'Ahh, here is the Dumpster,'" said Park Cover, of the studio.

Anyone interested in finding negatives can call (814) 536-5189 and leave a message with the name of the person in the picture and date it was taken.
