Johnstown Put On The Map

With the cut of a ribbon- Congressman John Murtha and military officials unveil a new shop for vehicle maintenance. It's already completed, but five other projects are on the way. Congressman Murtha said, at the groundbreaking this morning, "They gotta be trained, they gotta be ready. These kind of facilities give them that opportunity... it consolidates and makes them more efficient."

Construction is already under way on two of the projects -- a storage facility to keep equipment and supplies dry and a building for military personnel who are spending the night in the area. This spring two other projects will get off the ground -- including a maintenance shop for the National Guard. But the most significant project is the construction of a state-of-the-art digital radar, said to be one of the newest most modern radar facilities in the world. The Johnstown Airport stands to benefit big time from the military's investment because the new radar will generate more traffic and create a safer environment for pilots and passengers. This one-of-a-kind radar will definintely put Johnstown on the map.
