Johnstown Still In The Hunt

There is still hope - that a company will choose Johnstown as it's new home - bringing with it 4-hundred jobs.

A company called Gamesa has Johnstown on thier shortlist. They make wind turbines - and the plan would be to use the Lower Works Building as a factory.

The Steel Mill could come to life again.. with 400 skilled workers making wind turbines.. an appealing prospect.

"Jobs that require some technical skill...not exatly sure of pay range but it is in no means minimum wage..." says Governor Ed Rendell.

Gamesa is looking at Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, Lehigh Valley and Scranton-- so how likely is Johsntown to attract the business.

"You're in a good area in terms of what's need to produce the wind." says the Governor

Those four cities could be narrowed down as early as next week.

"They're in next week talking to us not a finished deal a lot of times when we have leads and talk to companies they don't cross the finish line. We're working hard to make it happen."

The Governor says he'll be meeting with company officials next week-- some things he's done to lure the company to Pennsylvania is to require all government buildings to get 20 percent of their energy from alternative sources by 2010...but really the big story for our area is to get that company here.
