Kaufman's Wedding World

Liquidation Sale Begins

It started with hundreds of brides calling Channel Six news to say it was just days until their wedding and they still didn't have their dresses. Now, Friday Kaufman's Wedding World files for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and their liquidation sale begins. Several brides-to-be went into the former Kaufman's store Friday, many left empty handed, but Channel 6 spoke to one who says she'll be back because of great bargains.

The signs are up saying everything must go. Starting Friday, brides who ordered their dresses before the chapter 7 filing last month can buy discounted merchandise, but don't expect to get the dress you ordered.

If you already placed deposits on dresses, you will not get refunds today, but if you show a receipt, you can get an extra 50 percent off the sale price. One bride-to-be I spoke to says there are a variety of wedding gowns inside and she's coming back for a second look, but don't expect to be able to dress your entire wedding party.

Bride-to-be Tanya Berkey says, Typically you want to have the same dress for all your bridesmaids and it's just not there. It'd be great for a formal dress, prom, something like that, but there's just not an option to clothe the whole wedding party in.

I spoke to Don Moore who's in charge of the liquidation and while he refused to go on camera he did say there'll be an ad in Saturdays Tribune Democrat advertising the sales he says one example, there's a $4,000 wedding dress on sale for $299.
