Keeping Kids Safe

As part of National School Bus Safety Week, buses from across the counties are being escorted by police. Police are also monitoring areas where violations usually occur. According to state law, drivers are required to stay 10 feet behind buses with red flashing signals on and wait to go until all the kids have reached a point of safety. Five drivers were issued citations Wednesday and they're facing, a $250 fine, a 4 points violation and license suspension if convicted. Every year forty fatalities are linked to school bus accidents, 75% of those happen while kids are getting on and off the bus.
