Keeping Soldiers Safe

Westmoreland County —

The Dlubak Corporation, in Blairsville, has designed a new glass turret that will help protect soldiers serving in Iraq. Tuesday, Congressman John Murtha said he couldn't be happier with how it turned out. The company developed the five-layer glass turret and it's getting rave reviews from soldiers. The new device, which is used on top of armored vehicles, provides more comfort and better safety for soldiers, including a 360-degree view of their surroundings.

Murtha says with the insurgency always stepping up it's attacks, this new turret will help us keep up with the ever-changing war.

"There's no question this is a tremendous advantage for the troops out in the field. For instance, when he sits down he is completely protected and he has a helmet on so he's protected from over head. And the snipers can't penetrate the glass," says Murtha.

Also, a bill has been introduced in Harrisburg that will create Patriot license plates. Pennsylvanians would be able to buy the plates for an extra $35, with $20 of it going to fund body armor and other needed equipment for soldiers. The plates would have yellow ribbons on them saying "support our troops."
