The investigation following the death of one of Laurel Crest's patients found deficiencies in four areas, including the administration. Officials tell Channel 6 News they will have their plan of correction approved before the January 2nd deadline. However, the Department of Health could still change their licensure status at any time. If that happens the home will be put on a provisional license, costing the center more money.

"When it comes to life and death situations, there is no room for error. There's no margin of error. I believe that is what the state is trying to illustrate here," says Cambria County commissioner P.J. Stevens.

"Along with the plan, we must suggest the date to the department of health when we feel everything will be in place. Based on that date, they will return and do another inspection," says administrator Chris Dear.

Laurel Crest will be holding a group meeting with the residents and their families to explain the situation. They have been busy reassuring them that the home will remain open. Commissioner Stevens says the county will be keeping a very close eye on the Laurel Crest administration.
