Lifeguards Offer Summer Swimming Tips

BROOKVILLE, Pa. —

With very warm weather, it's no surprise swimming hot spots have been the place to be this week.

But after an incident at a Jefferson County swimming area, officials are reminding people to be cautious in the water.

Fire officials in Brookville told WJAC-TV a teenage girl hurt her ankle Monday and went under the water at Walter Dick Park. Crews were able to get her out of the water, and we're told, she was just fine after the incident.

Residents said that park is the place to be in Brookville during the summer, especially once kids are out of school. They added that the swimming area was packed Monday.

Lifeguards said swimming in that swimming area, in the North Fork Creek, can be tricky. The creek has a rocky bottom which drops off in several places. Lifeguards added that it's something swimmers need to think about before stepping into the water.
