Johnstown —
Being able to find a sexual offender or predator is now an extension of the Megan's Law website.
The website reveals the city a sexual offender or predator lives in, what they were convicted of, and their picture. Just fill in the information you know whether it's the area they live in, their name, or their nickname and the information will come up. By law, a street address will only be listed for sexually violent predators. City and zip code will be listed for sexual offenders.
Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Steve Barto, said, "The biggest thing to be aware of, again, keep track of your kids as you would do normally anyway. Be aware of your neighborhood. Advise your children so they're aware."
Sexually violent predators are on the list for life. But sexual offenders are only on the list for 10 years after their conviction.
You can check any county in Pennsylvania to see what sexual offenders or predators live there. The list shows that Cambria County has 150 convicted offenders, dozens more than any other county only because of those in the prison. Centre County has 98. Blair County has 79. Bedford County has 26. There are 83 in Clearfield County and 44 in Huntingdon County.
Marilyn Safko, of Johnstown said, "You don't think that there's that many around that do these kind of things, especially with your little grandchildren."
John Weaver, of Beaverdale, said, "I think I'd be better off not to know. I wouldn't want to know. It might be somebody I know or something. I just wouldn't want to know."
Norbert Mosholder, of Johnstown, disagreed. She said, "Know what's in your neighborhood. If there's any around my grandchildren it would sure concern me, yes."
State Police warn that you can be charged if you harass or intimidate people on the list.
