Local Business Takes Hit From Sidewalk Construction

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. —

Erma Jean's restaurant in Northern Cambria Borough has been a popular eatery for years. The new sidewalk out front was supposed to make life easier, but so far, it's been anything but easy.

The sidewalks and curbs are being replaced along the main drag in the borough and work has been going on for three weeks.

Gary Eagler, the owner of Erma Jean's, claimed his revenue has dropped off by more than half since the sidewalk construction began. He said it's been difficult for his elderly customers to get into the restaurant and many of his regulars have simply stopped coming all together.

The borough's engineer admits there has been a few hold-ups with the project, but it's moving forward. It's not clear when the sidewalks will be done.

Eagler said he may have to take out a loan just to survive.
