Local Community Considering Ordinance To Keep Predators Out

INDIANA COUNTY, Pa. —

Residents in Armagh, Indiana County, have been complaining about a sexually violent predator who moved in a few weeks ago. Now the neighboring township of East Wheatfield is trying to keep the same thing from happening to them.

Leaders in East Wheatfield Township said they plan to hold a public meeting on Saturday to discuss possible restrictions on where sexual predators can live. The restrictions would go above and beyond what Megan's Law lays out, in order to make it tougher for convicted criminals to settle there.

East Wheatfield is not the first community to take on the subject. Shade Township and Benson Borough in Somerset County have already passed a similar ordinance, as did Ferndale and Johnstown in Cambria County. Also eight other communities in Cambria County are considering making the change, as well as Brockway in Jefferson County and Hooversville in Somerset County.
