Local Family Wants More Help From LIHEAP

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

A Johnstown family said they are very grateful for the first supply of heating oil they received from state grants, now they are hopeful for another.

The Evanicskos have been using a kerosene heater in their home for several days.

With two small children at home, Cindy Evanicsko is concerned she may have to use kerosene for several weeks until she can afford to buy more oil.

LIHEAP, Pennsylvania's heating-assistance program, has been granted an additional $44 million in federal money to help those who can't pay their heating bills this winter.

However, the organization is still reviewing its options as to how to best use the money it was given, so it has not made a decision if it will allow families to reapply for a second grant.
