Local Jail Gets Poor Marks

BEDFORD —

Every year the department of corrections scores jails and prisons across the state. One local Jail hopes to improve their latest grade.

The Bedford County Prison received a 68 out of 100 earlier this year, cited for problems with cleanliness and security. Since the March inspection, a warden and a prison board instead of the Bedford Sheriffs Office are running the jail. The warden tells Channel 6 he has been working on new policies and more training. He expects to receive better marks in 2006.
