Local Marine Killed In Afghanistan Laid To Rest

NICKTOWN, Pa. —

A memorial service was held Friday for a local Marine who was killed in Afghanistan.

Relatives of Lance Cpl. Joshua Twigg said the Indiana County native was shot to death last Thursday.

Twigg, 21, of Nicktown, graduated from Penns Manor High School in 2007, where he played football. Last Friday's football home opener was dedicated in Twigg's memory.

He was stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

The funeral service was held Friday morning at St. Nicholas School's auditorium in Nicktown. Hundreds of people paid their respects to the fallen soldier on Thursday at the Moriconi Funeral Home in Northern Cambria.

Many of the same people had lined Route 219 on Wednesday as a motorcade carrying Twigg's casket drove through town.
