Local Police Department Closes

Centre County —

The retirement of a Centre County police officer leaves a town with no police department. When Leonard Bloom joined the force in Philipsburg there were nine officers on staff. He's the last one remaining. Like many small towns in Central Pennsylvania, finding the funds to support a local police force is getting harder and harder. The nearby state police barracks will provide coverage for Philipsburg, but many business owners say that's not enough. Borough officials are still looking into options.
