ELK COUNTY, Pa. —

The PA Heartland chapter of the American Red Cross is in need of volunteers.

Jason Bange, the executive director of the chapter, told 6 News the chapter is looking for volunteers to help with blood drives in Elk and Cameron counties.

Bange said he is worried that if they do not get more volunteers soon, they might have to cancel some upcoming blood drives.

"We would have to scale back. We would have to cancel blood drives. We rely on volunteers to provide our services for all of our volunteer services. Anytime we have a volunteer shortage we have to think about how we're operating these programs and possibly make changes in those operations," he said.

Currently in Elk County, there are only a handful of volunteers helping with the blood drives.

Bange said that there are only one or two drives a month, but it is becoming a burden on the few volunteers they have.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering at blood drives should contact the PA Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross at 371-2750.
