Centre County Firefighter Heading West

State College, Pa. —

David Felice is a firefighter and fire investigator in Centre County, but on Monday, July 9 he found out that he could be heading west to fight the massive wildfires.

He's been trained in Wildlife fires for almost two decades, so given the large fires out west, he know's what is at stake.

"Whenever you get a call from the federal government telling you, you have to go out of state, it's definitely a big time deal." said Felice.

Sending Pennsylvania firefighters out west to fight a large fire is not uncommon according to Felice.

"People out west actually love when Pennsylvania firefighters come out there," said Felice.

Felice added the reason is because firefighters from the Keystone State are so well rounded in what they can do, they have experience covering structure fires as well as wildfires. Not to mention there are so many fire departments in the state.

For Felice, this won't be his first time going out there, he has ventured out west before to fight wildfires.

"It's a rush, you always have to stay alert and be on your game," he added.

Now as for when he leaves and which one of the five states affected by the fires will he go to? He says he won't know until his plane is in the air. When he leaves is still in the grey as well. It could be a week, or two, or the next day.

Either way, he says he's ready.
