Local Fallen Marine Honored A Year After His Death

By WJAC Web Staff

GALLITZIN, Pa. —

It's been one year since a young Cambria County Marine lost his life in the fighting in Afghanistan, but Lance Corporal Ralph Fabbri will never lose his place in the hearts and minds of the people of Gallitzin.

Wednesday night, his hometown took time out to honor the 20-year-old native son, and the sacrifices he made, with a special rememberance event.

Stacy Hoover said, "He's a true, american hero, and the town has been so great in showing their support and this is just another way to do it."

Fabbri made an impression on his small town that is keeping his memory alive a year after he was killed in Afghanistan.

Eileen Fabbri said, "We want to make sure that nobody ever forgets, what he gave for our freedom."

He died a day before his 21st birthday and just weeks before coming home from his first tour of duty.

Fabbri's family established a scholarship fund in his name.  The school awarded the first scholarship at Penn Cambria's High School Graduation ceremony.  The community also named a park in Gallitzin in Lance Corporal Fabbri's memory.
